Md. Anwar Hossain, Vice-Chairman

Export Promotion Bureau

Mr. Md. Anwar Hossain, Additional Secretary to the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, assumed the role of CEO and Vice-Chairman of the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) on June 30, 2024. Before this appointment, he served as the Wing Chief of the World Bank Wing in the Economic Relations Division (ERD), where he held key positions in the Americans and Japan Wings and the Development Effectiveness Wing. He also led the Asia Wing of ERD as the Wing Chief. In these roles, he successfully negotiated critical projects and strengthened partnerships with bilateral and multilateral development partners.

Mr. Hossain entered the administration cadre through the 15th BCS in 1995, beginning his career as an Assistant Commissioner and Magistrate in the Dhaka Collectorate. He has also served in the Ministry of Public Administration and held various civil service positions.

He earned first-class honors in both his Bachelor's and Master's degree programs in Economics from Dhaka University. Additionally, he holds a Master's Degree with Distinction in Development Economics from Williams College, USA. He has worked as a Research Assistant (PhD candidate) at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies, University of Denver, USA. Mr. Hossain is an active member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (MCIPS) and served as the Director on the boards of IDCOL and IIFC during his tenure at ERD.

Since 2017, Mr. Hossain has been actively involved in ensuring the smooth and sustainable graduation of Bangladesh from the LDC category. He has expertise in public policy and economic analysis, macroeconomic management, project management, and procurement and supply chain management.

On a personal note, Mr. Hossain enjoys a happy marriage and is a proud father of a daughter and a son. He is also engaged in various social organizations and activities aimed at the betterment of communities.
